After her speech a short video called ‘Letters to Malala’, made by Sharmeen was shown. When Sharmeen learned about the assassination attempt on Malala, she travelled to the school to film this piece. The letters read by the students are words of wishes to the still-recovering Malala, who, upon visiting the school earlier in the year, became the academy’s namesake. We have put together excerpts from the moving video and part of Sharmeen’s acceptance speech here: Sharmeen makes us proud again!

November 10th, was named a Global Day of Action for Malala and 32 million girls denied education, championed by UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon, and Gordon Brown, the UN’s Special Envoy for Education. The same day, the always incredible Vital Voices launched The Malala Fund to support Malala’s mission for global education equality, working with United Nations Foundation/Girl Up, and more.

Malala’s father, Ziauddin Yousafzai, who runs several schools in Pakistan’s Swat Valley and is also an advocate for access to equal education, said of the mission for global change:

“Malala and all other female human rights activists must be heard seriously and sincerely. If today, their voice goes unheard then coming generations will go without basic human rights and sublime values which men and women have been striving for centuries to achieve. We can’t compromise on the peace and prosperity of our future generations.”

15th Nov 2012, The day we met Kate Moss!

In her new book, Kate Moss ( who barely ever gives interviews) opens up about the highs and lows of getting to the top in the fashion industry and staying there for over twenty years. Told through images personally selected by Kate, in collaboration with creative director Fabien Baron, Jess Hallett, and Jefferson Hack, the super heavy coffee table book is an extremely personal retrospective of Kate’s career ( she admits to having a nervous breakdown at 17, hating her face and breasts, and the heartbreak after her relationship with Jonny Depp ended), tracing her evolution from “new girl with potential” to one of the most iconic models of all time. It shows the influence of her collaborations with top photographers and artists over the last two decades, and clearly demonstrates why her career has had, and continues to have, such incredible longevity. Including many ‘never-before-seen’ images from her own archives and those of the illustrious photographers with whom she has worked, KATE is a must-have for anyone interested in one of the most iconic models in the history of fashion media and modern culture.
